A 29-year-old Anna Awuor, a Luo woman from Siaya County, has found herself homeless after being rejected by her family for giving birth to a mixed-race Arabian child.
Awuor’s ordeal began when she returned to Kenya after working as a domestic worker in Saudi Arabia, where she suffered abuse at the hands of her employer, leading to an unplanned pregnancy.
After discovering that she was pregnant, Awuor’s Saudi employer hastily deported her back to Kenya. However, her troubles were far from over. Upon returning home, her family refused to accept her and her newborn child, citing the baby’s Arabian heritage as the reason.
This rejection left Awuor and her children with nowhere to go, forcing her to seek refuge in Migori County, where she hoped to find support from a relative. Unfortunately, upon arrival, she discovered that her relative had moved away.
Desperate and with no options left, Awuor turned to the chief’s camp in Migori, where she sought assistance. Her plight was eventually brought to light by philanthropist Judy Oricho, who shared the woman’s heartbreaking story on her Facebook page.
In her post, Oricho revealed that Awuor was abandoned by her family due to the child’s mixed heritage and was in dire need of food, clothing, and shelter.
Oricho’s post struck a chord with Kenyans, and soon, well-wishers began offering their support.
One notable organization, Harvest Hope of Africa, stepped in to provide immediate assistance. They took Awuor and her children under their care, offering them shelter and other essential needs
