A young man from Kendu Bay, currently living in Eldoret, is appealing for help after his family lost their only piece of land while trying to save his father’s life.
Brian Okoth, who now sells bags using a bicycle to make ends meet, says the family was forced to sell their home for KSh180,000 to cater for urgent medical bills when the State Health Insurance (SHA) failed them.
According to Brian, his father fell seriously ill and was admitted to Gendia Hospital. Doctors recommended an urgent operation, and the family initially believed SHA would cover the costs.
However, to their shock, they were later informed that the cover was inactive—without clear explanation.
With time running out, the family had no option but to sell the land they called home.
“We sold our land to raise KSh185,000 to save dad. He got better, but now we have nowhere to live. The buyer has already fenced off the land and is demanding we vacate immediately,” Brian shared.
He says his parents are under immense pressure and shame, and he feels helpless as the eldest son. Despite working hard and saving, the amount is still not enough to buy another piece of land or secure proper housing for his parents.
Brian has tried reaching out to well-wishers, including public figures like Erick Omondi, but his pleas have gone unanswered. “Sometimes I can’t even afford to travel home. My parents depend on me, but I’m not in a position to help them as I wish,” he added.
He is now appealing to any kind-hearted individuals willing to assist.
