A 31-year-old mother from Mugamba-ciura village in Mwea-East sub-county, Kirinyaga, is desperately seeking financial assistance to remove a sewing needle lodged in her throat.
Eveline Karekia, a mother of four, accidentally swallowed the needle while sewing clothes for her baby.
The incident has left her in significant distress, as the needle has been stuck in her throat for four weeks, making it difficult for her to eat and causing immense pain.
Eveline’s husband, Kelvin Maina, has been tirelessly seeking help, but their efforts have been hindered by their inability to afford the required medical procedure.
Despite visiting several hospitals, including Embu Level 5 Hospital and Kerugoya Level 4 Hospital, the family was referred to a private facility, where they were asked to pay KSh 10,000 to trace and remove the needle.
“We are struggling to feed our family, and my wife continues to suffer. The hospitals are asking for KSh 10,000, but we cannot afford it,” Kelvin told Citizen Digital. The family is now appealing to well-wishers for help, as they fear losing Eveline due to a lack of funds.
The situation has also raised concerns within the community about the quality of healthcare available in the region.
“It’s alarming that a Level 4 hospital couldn’t address this emergency,” said David Karatai, a concerned neighbor.
