Once a thriving business, Kai and Karo Limited, owned by businessman Khalif Kairo, has now become a no-go zone for customers.
Allegations of fraud and obtaining money by false pretenses have led to a significant decline in trust, with clients choosing to steer clear of the business.
Kairo’s troubles began when multiple customers reported cases of financial impropriety.
Recently, he was arrested after a customer reported to the police that they had been defrauded millions of shillings over a car that was supposed to be imported into the country but never materialized.
Additionally, Kairo has been accused of defrauding a car buyer who made full payment for a Mercedes Benz. While the vehicle’s registration was successfully completed, Kairo allegedly failed to pay suppliers, further raising concerns about his business dealings and financial stability.
A legal demand letter issued by Waithaka & Muthusi Advocates on behalf of another aggrieved client highlighted further breaches.
According to the letter, Kairo received Ksh 2,520,000 for a 2017 Honda vehicle with a 1500CC engine and chassis number RU3-1258947. Despite the payment being made on 12th July 2024, Kairo allegedly failed to deliver the vehicle within the agreed 45 days.
Repeated attempts by the client to have the matter resolved were reportedly ignored, highlighting a serious breach of contract.
The fallout from these cases has been severe.
Reports indicate that many of Kairo’s staff have resigned due to unpaid salaries.
Sources close to the business suggest that mounting debts have left the businessman unable to meet operational costs, including rent and utility bills.
A source at Kairo’s yard along Kiambu Road revealed that no customers have visited the yard for over a month.
“The business is facing a sharp decline in cash flow. Trust issues from previous complaints have kept customers away. Kairo is now considering shutting down entirely due to financial insolvency,” the source said.
