The hashtag #nanenanemarch has gained momentum online as some Kenyans have written an open letter to the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) of Kenya, Mr. Charles Kahariri, urging him to intervene and ensure that Kenyans are not mistreated or abducted while exercising their constitutional right to freedom of assembly.
In the letter, these Kenyans expressed their anger at how the police have been handling them during protests. One of the key issues highlighted was the recent abductions of citizens.
In a video currently circulating online, an unidentified Kenyan is seen being abducted by a group of unknown individuals. These individuals appear to be armed and are seen moving around in two vehicles.
Furthermore, they informed Mr. Charles that they would be participating in the demonstrations peacefully and that they are doing so to hold the government accountable for issues such as corruption and youth unemployment.
They also expressed that some police officers have been mistreating them by using tear gas and live bullets, which have resulted in the deaths of approximately sixty citizens. They conveyed their anger over the excessive use of force by the police, contrary to a court order that prohibits such actions during protests.
The letter concluded by thanking the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers for their integrity and humanity, particularly during the last demonstrations where officers were seen escorting protesters home in various videos. They urged the KDF to maintain this high standard in their duties.
