Safina Party leader Jimmy Wanjigi has disclosed why he did not speak with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga during a recent police raid at his home.

In an interview with Citizen TV, Wanjigi revealed that despite Raila’s visit to his residence following the raid, he chose to remain hidden on the advice of his family, who feared for his life.

Wanjigi explained that his family was adamant that he should stay out of sight because they believed the police would kill him if he surfaced.

“I did not speak to him [Raila] because it was not safe according to my family for me to show my head,” Wanjigi stated. “My family was very insistent. They said they would rather themselves be brutalized.”

During the raid, Wanjigi’s wife and other family members endured brutal treatment at the hands of the police.

Wanjigi recounted how his wife was violently assaulted, pulled from a sofa by a policewoman, and beaten.

Despite her pleas of “Don’t shoot me,” the officers continued to mistreat her. Wanjigi expressed deep concern over the violence his family faced, noting their incredible resilience in protecting him.

“They said they were going to take it because if I came out, the police were going to kill me,” he added.

Wanjigi admitted that he was inside his home during the entire ordeal but refused to disclose his exact location. He watched as the police terrorized his family, feeling powerless to intervene.

“I was inside my home, but beyond that, I won’t tell you where. I watched them threaten my family,” he said. Wanjigi also revealed that the raid was more than just a search for him—it was an act of calculated violence and theft. “They came to wreak havoc and assault my family. It was an armed robbery. They stole money and jewelry. They even stole from my staff,” Wanjigi claimed.

The businessman argued that the raid had nothing to do with the law but was instead a targeted attack meant to inflict maximum damage on his home and loved ones.
