In 2020, Kenyan radio personality Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, made a shocking decision that sent ripples through the media industry.
He walked away from his successful career as a radio presenter at Milele FM, citing a contractual dispute with the management.
However, this move was just the beginning of his journey towards a new chapter in his life – politics.
In a candid revelation, Jalango, shared why he left his lucrative Sh 1.8 million salary at Milele FM.
The turning point came when COVID-19 hit, and the station called for salary reductions.
Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, Jalango stood firm in his refusal to accept a pay cut, arguing that with the increase in advertisements due to COVID-19-related funding from organizations like the WHO and the government, the station should not reduce salaries.
“I refused, but I accepted a 50% reduction,” Jalango recalled.
However, things took a turn when the station demanded he resign before signing the new contract. Jalango resisted, stating that many people in the media had not had their contracts adjusted despite the struggles of mainstream media.
He spent two hours jobless before eventually parting ways with Milele FM.
Jalango reflected on the shift in his career, emphasizing his belief in his worth and the importance of consistency in media. He expressed confidence in his abilities, saying, “Even today, when I go back to radio, I know my worth.”
In 2022, Jalang’o made another groundbreaking decision – he ventured into the world of politics.
