On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the arrest of Victor Ouma Okoth, suspected in the brutal murder of Willis Onyango Ayieko, a former Human Resources Manager at Wells Fargo.
Ayieko’s body was discovered on October 23, three days after he was reported missing.
Okoth was apprehended in his recently rented single-room residence in Dandora Phase IV, Embakasi North, Nairobi County, where investigators continue to piece together details of the case.
Reports reveal that Okoth arrived in Nairobi on October 25, seeking a new residence.
He eventually secured a room in the Charity area of Dandora Phase IV.
The caretaker recounted that Okoth introduced himself as a teacher named “John,” deliberately concealing his real identity.
Following negotiations, they agreed on a monthly rent of Ksh 5,550, with Okoth initially paying Ksh 750 for the remaining days of October, along with Ksh 4,000 in rent and an additional Ksh 800 for a water deposit.
After securing the room, Okoth visited a local furniture store and returned with household items, giving the small room an appearance of surprising completeness.
Through the uncovered window, a three-seater sofa, a bed, a table, a television, and a subwoofer with twin speakers were visible.
The room also contained two pairs of new shoes, while a purple suitcase brimming with clothes rested on the sofa.
When Okoth was arrested, a fellow tenant reported that he was found in possession of a substantial amount of cash, which detectives confiscated during his arrest.
According to the DCI, forensic analysis placed Okoth at the crime scene, linking him to the murder of Ayieko.
The ongoing forensic-led investigation, spearheaded by DCI’s Homicide, Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), and Operations units, has so far involved the questioning of two additional individuals connected to Ayieko’s murder.
Initial findings indicate that the suspect’s associates allegedly withdrew money from Ayieko’s M-Pesa account.
A postmortem conducted on Ayieko’s body on Tuesday confirmed that he died from severe head injuries.
Okoth, currently detained at Muthaiga Police Station, remains under investigation as detectives work to unravel the full details of this tragic case.
