President William Ruto’s administration has seen the nomination of several promising individuals for key positions, and among them is the 32-year-old Eric Muriithi Muuga, nominated for the role of Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation.
Muuga’s selection has generated considerable interest, given his impressive academic and professional background, coupled with his commitment to community service.
Early Life and Education
Born on July 14, 1992, Eric Muuga’s journey to prominence began with a stellar academic record. He attended St. Johns Boarding Primary School in Maua, where he scored an impressive 431 marks in his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams in 2005.
His academic excellence continued at Lenana School in Nairobi, where he completed his secondary education between 2006 and 2009.
Muuga then pursued higher education at the University of Nairobi (UoN), earning a bachelor’s degree in Civil and Construction Engineering with first-class honors.
In 2022, he furthered his expertise by obtaining a master’s degree in Civil Engineering (Water Resources) from UoN.
Professional Experience
Muuga’s professional journey spans eight years, during which he has accumulated significant experience in the Operations and Management of Engineering Projects, Water Hydraulic Modeling, and the Design of Water and Wastewater Networks.
He has held key positions in various projects, including assistant Project Engineer roles at the Water and Sanitation Development Project (WSDP) and KIMAWASCO.
His portfolio includes working as a design engineer for the Kenya Towns Sustainable Water and Supply Sanitation Program.
He also contributed to the Feasibility Study & Preparation of a Water Supply Masterplan for Murang’a County in 2019 and the Preparation of Detailed Design, ESIA/RAP, and Tender Documents for Water Distribution Works for Mombasa and three other Water Service Providers.
Muuga’s commitment to enhancing water infrastructure is evident through his involvement in last mile connectivity projects for towns such as Narok, Kabarnet, Marigat, Kabartonjo, and Chemolingon.
As a registered Graduate Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), he upholds the highest standards of his profession.
Voluntary Work
Beyond his professional achievements, Muuga has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service. He volunteered as a teacher at Kirindine Day Secondary School in Meru County from May 2010 to July 2011, teaching Mathematics, Physics, Business Studies, and Geography.
Additionally, he was active in the Kenya Red Cross Society’s UoN Chapter in 2015, providing basic first aid services during local events and participating in street cleaning initiatives in Nairobi.
