Nairobi – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has vowed to take decisive action against a 92-year-old man who recently claimed he purchased the pistol used in the assassination of former minister Tom Mboya. This revelation has stirred the nation, reigniting interest in the tragic death of one of Kenya’s most prominent statesmen.
In a statement released on Monday, July 8, the DCI confirmed that it is investigating the claims made by the elderly man, Ndwiga, as reported in an article by the Saturday Nation on July 6, 2024.
The DCI emphasized the gravity of the confession and assured the public that appropriate action would be taken upon the completion of the investigation.
“The attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been drawn to an article in the Saturday Nation dated July 6th, 2024.
The article reports that a 92-year-old man purchased the pistol that was used in the killing of Tom Mboya, a trade unionist, educator, Pan-Africanist, author, former minister, and statesman. The DCI has initiated an investigation and necessary action will be taken once the investigation is complete,” the DCI stated.
Ndwiga, speaking to the Nation, divulged a secret that had been kept for over five decades. He confessed that he, along with two other young men from Kanu, was paid by an unnamed individual to track and murder Tom Mboya.
The trio followed Mboya until the fateful day of July 5, 1969, when he was shot on Moi Avenue near the National Archives building as he was leaving a pharmacy.
Tom Mboya’s assassination sent shockwaves across Kenya and beyond, marking a dark chapter in the nation’s history. The recent confession by Ndwiga has not only reopened old wounds but has also prompted the DCI to revisit the case with renewed vigor.
