Busia Residents Accuse County Attorney General Innocent Omboko of Prioritizing Blogging Over Legal Duties

Busia residents have criticized County Attorney General Innocent Omboko for neglecting his legal responsibilities in favor of political blogging

They claim that Omboko has been using social media platforms to engage in political debates and personal attacks rather than addressing key legal matters affecting the county.

The backlash against him intensified after a recent social media exchange, sparked by a Facebook post accusing Busia Governor Paul Otuoma of bribing a section of ODM members to relocate the party’s 20th anniversary celebrations from Busia town to his home backyard in Funyula.

The user alleged that Otuoma made the move out of fear of being heckled by residents from constituencies such as Teso, Matayos, Nambale, and the larger Butula, where people would have had easier access to the town event.

In response to the allegations, Omboko took to social media to justify the venue change, arguing that grassroots voices must be heard.

“The best idea is to listen to the ‘grass-rootiest’ of the grassroots. If ODM chooses Busia over the capital Nairobi, then there’s no harm in going to Bukiri, Siamakondi, Osieko, or Changara to hear from the deepest of the grassroots, where the most ordinary votes reside!”

However, his remarks only fueled further outrage, with residents dismissing his justification and accusing him of deflecting from the real issue.

“Leave that Omboko alone! He has failed to handle even the simplest county disputes and has misled Yorere on matters of justice, legislation, and policy,” one resident lamented.

Another questioned his priorities, stating, “How can the county attorney spend more time online than in the courtroom? We need a legal officer who works for the people, not one who chases clout on social media.”

A local leader echoed similar sentiments, adding, “Busia deserves professional legal leadership. If Omboko cannot separate his personal opinions from his official duties, then it’s time for him to step aside.”

The re-location of ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations had sparked controversy with some leaders saying they won’t attend if the event wont be held in town which is easily accessible.
