Baba Jimmy, a well-known TikToker, recently addressed his followers’ curiosity regarding the US citizenship status of his wife and children.
Despite being the father and husband to his family, Baba Jimmy clarified that US immigration laws make the process of acquiring citizenship more complex than many might assume.
In a candid explanation on his TikTok account, Baba Jimmy revealed that the intricacies of US law are the primary reason his family has not yet obtained citizenship.
He explained that for someone to automatically pass on US citizenship to their children, they must have lived in the United States for more than two years after turning 14.
However, Baba Jimmy moved to Kenya when he was just 12 years old and never met the residency requirement, which means his children cannot automatically become US citizens.
He shared, “Many people ask why my children aren’t US citizens even though I’m their father. There’s a law here in the USA that requires someone to have lived more than two years in the US after age 14. I moved to Kenya when I was 12 and never lived in the USA for more than two years.”
Despite these challenges, Baba Jimmy is committed to securing US citizenship for his family. He assured his followers that he is actively working on this process.
He has applied for visas for his wife and children, and once they receive their green cards, they plan to move to the United States.
After living in the US for three years, they will be eligible to apply for citizenship.
He explained, “We’ve applied for visas, and once they’re granted green cards, we’ll stay in the USA for about three years. After that, we can apply for citizenship for them and Mama Jimmy.”
