Renowned radio personality Alex Mwakideu recently opened up about his personal decision to quit alcohol in 2019, emphasizing that the choice was not influenced by his marriage but was instead a deeply personal resolution.
During an engaging conversation with Obinna, Mwakideu shared a pivotal moment in his life that led to this significant lifestyle change.
The turning point came during the introduction ceremony of his best friend, Felix Odiwour, also known as Jalang’o, to his in-laws. Mwakideu was honored to be Jalang’o’s spokesman for the event.
However, the night before, he indulged excessively in alcohol and ended up blacking out. He awoke late the following day, discovering that everyone had already arrived at the venue, nearly missing the event himself.
Reflecting on this close call, Mwakideu realized he needed to change his habits.
“I quit drinking in 2019. It was the time we were taking Jalang’o for the introduction of his wife. I had taken a lot of alcohol. That day I overslept and woke up at noon. On checking the WhatsApp group, everyone was already at the event and properly dressed. I rushed to the event since I was the one speaking on behalf of friends,” he recounted.
After the ceremony, Mwakideu made a firm decision to quit alcohol. He reiterated that this choice was not due to any professional pressures or marital issues. “I was not fired, and I did not mess up my marriage, but it was a decision I made,” he clarified.
In place of alcohol, Mwakideu has embraced a new lifestyle that includes an appreciation for cigars.
He describes cigar smoking as a refined habit, noting that different cigars complement various beverages like whiskey, wine, and coffee. His preference lies with coffee cigars, aligning with his love for coffee.
