Machakos County Public Service Board: Addressing Corruption and Unfair Recruitment Practices

The Machakos County Public Service Board is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring transparent, fair, and merit-based recruitment processes for the benefit of the hardworking people of Machakos County.

However, recent events have raised serious concerns about the integrity of the board and its adherence to ethical practices.

This article aims to shed light on the questionable actions of the board members and urges swift action to rectify the situation.

Uncovering the Unscrupulous Actions

It has come to our attention that the newly appointed board chairperson, Albanus Muisyo, along with members of the County Public Service Board and two chief officers, embarked on an extravagant trip to Mombasa.

The expenses incurred, including airfare and hotel accommodation, were exorbitant and raise questions about the responsible use of public funds.

The pictures shared below provide evidence of this wasteful expenditure, leaving residents of Machakos County rightfully concerned about the board’s priorities.

The Deception and Manipulation

Under the leadership of Governor Wavinya Ndeti, the county government of Machakos requested the County Public Service Board to announce job vacancies within the county.

However, it has come to light that the board, led by Chairman Albanus Muisyo, deviated from the expected process.

They unilaterally decided to handpick candidates, prepare employment letters, and shortlist applicants without conducting interviews as required.

These actions were carried out without the knowledge of the applicants, who eagerly applied for the advertised positions. This unfair and unprofessional approach has raised serious doubts about the integrity and credibility of the board.

The Resignation and the Failed Plan

It is worth noting that the county public service board secretary, Paul Muisyo, resigned due to undue pressure, as stated in his resignation letter dated June 23rd, 2023.

This resignation came at a critical time when the board was planning to issue employment letters to selected candidates on June 27th, 2023.

However, following his departure, the plan was abandoned, and the letters were shredded. This development points to the board’s chaotic decision-making process and lack of proper governance.

A Dubious Second Attempt

Undeterred by their previous failure, the board chairman, Albanus, orchestrated another attempt to push through their corrupt scheme.

The board members, once again with the involvement of two chief officers, convened in Mombasa and proceeded to shortlist their preferred candidates, issue employment letters, and return to Nairobi.

This process was conducted under the strict supervision of the chief officers, casting doubt on the impartiality and independence of the board chairman.

It is important to note that some of the candidates previously signed by the former board secretary were included in this new list, further adding to the lack of transparency and fairness.

The Plight of Applicants

Today, as unsuspecting applicants gather for interviews, it is crucial to highlight that their efforts and expenses have been in vain.

The board has already pre-determined the selected candidates, rendering the interview process redundant.

This blatant disregard for fair recruitment practices has left hundreds of hopeful Machakos residents, especially the youth, disillusioned and betrayed.

The Call for Action

In light of these revelations, it is imperative for Governor Wavinya Ndeti to address the situation promptly. The governor, who appointed the board, must ensure that her government’s reputation remains untarnished and that the dreams and aspirations of those who entrusted her with their votes are not crushed.

Additionally, we urge the County Assembly, which oversees the activities of the County Public Service Board, to intervene and initiate a thorough investigation into these corrupt practices.

In Conclusion

The residents of Machakos County deserve a transparent, fair, and accountable County Public Service Board. The recent actions of the board members, particularly the chairman, Albanus Muisyo, have raised serious concerns about corruption, nepotism, and the undermining of proper recruitment processes.

Immediate action is needed to rectify this situation, restore public trust, and ensure that the dreams of the people are not extinguished.

It is time for justice, accountability, and a commitment to the welfare of the hardworking people of Machakos County.
