Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has come to the aid of political activist Nuru Okanga by clearing a KSh 900,000 hospital bill for Okanga’s 10-year-old son, who has been battling kidney failure.

The young boy had been receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital for over three months, during which time the medical expenses accumulated to an overwhelming amount.

Nuru Okanga, known for his vocal support of the Azimio political movement, had earlier expressed his frustration and despair as he sought help from various well-wishers and political allies.

Despite being a public figure with connections to several politicians, only a few, including Raila Odinga and Babu Owino, had come to his aid. Okanga shared his struggles, noting that many politicians had stopped picking up his calls, leaving him feeling abandoned.

In early August, Babu Owino attempted to assist by requesting a waiver for the hospital bill, but the hospital reportedly declined the request. By August 11, the outstanding bill had reached KSh 900,000, leaving Okanga in a state of deep anxiety.

However, Okanga’s worries were alleviated on August 12 when CS Kindiki stepped in to clear the entire bill. Kindiki sent politician Mike Makarena to settle the amount, a gesture that brought immense relief to Okanga.

In addition to clearing the KSh 900,000 bill, Kindiki also promised to cover an extra KSh 120,000 for further analysis of the boy’s blood, which will be sent to India or South Africa.

Overjoyed by the unexpected support, Okanga expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Kindiki, acknowledging that while some of his political allies had deserted him, Kindiki’s timely intervention had restored hope. He praised the CS, wishing him blessings for his generosity and compassion during such a challenging time.
