University of Kabianga closed indefinitely over student unrest

The University of Kabianga in Belgut, Kericho County has been closed indifinetly following a student riot at the institution on Monday.

In a circular signed by the University Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics and Student Affairs, Prof. Elijah Omwenga, the decision to close the institution was arrived at on Monday after a council special meeting.

The students went on a rampage destroying properties over what they described a punitive measures by the school adminstration over fee increment.

The University had announced that they had increase the fee by 40 percent. This means that every student was expected to pay Ksh 10,000 more than the usual fee.

The groups affected by the closure are 2nd year students, 3rd year students and 4th year students.

They were ordered to vacate the University premises immediately
