In a dramatic incident that left locals in Bondeni, Nakuru County in shock, a family dropped the coffin of a 63-year-old boda boda rider at a restaurant owned by a man who allegedly owed him Ksh 400,000.

The rider had saved for eight years under a table banking group. However, when he sought to recover the loan, the businessman gave him a motorbike and started giving multiple excuses to avoid repaying the loan.

The deceased’s nephew, Benson Mobegi, claimed that his uncle had loaned the owner of the restaurant his life savings, and despite owning multiple cars and a successful restaurant business, he refused to contribute to the deceased’s send-off fundraiser.

The businessman had even allegedly fled to the nearby police station to seek refuge.

Many locals in the area are calling for justice for the deceased, with some claiming that the businessman is a serial debtor with many cases reported to the area Nyumba Kumi Chairperson.

The incident has sparked outrage among the residents, who are now demanding that the businessman sell either one of his cars or parcels of land to service his debts or at least commit to paying them over time.

Police officers arrived at the scene and launched an investigation to ascertain the claims by the deceased’s family.
