Two brothers set their younger brother on fire for witnessing them steal a phone

Police in Mandera County have launched a manhunt for two brothers who allegedly set their 14-year-old brother ablaze on Monday night.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said that the brothers set their younger brother on fire after they learned that he was a witness in a case where one of them, Ibrahim Ahmed was a suspect.

“The class seven pupil at Kamor Primary School in Mandera was lured to their house by his mischievous brothers Ibrahim Ahmed and Yusuf Ahmed, before being rolled up in a mattress doused in petrol and set on fire,” DCI said.

Detectives say the two suspects went into hiding immediately after setting the minor ablaze, leaving him for dead.

Ibrahim Ahmed was accused of stealing a mobile phone in a case that is currently before a court in Mandera.

The DCI said that the police were alerted of the incident after they saw smoke from the victims’s house. The police rushed to the scene to rescue the boy who had sustained fatal injuries from the fire.

The minor is currently recuperating at Mandera County Referral Hospital while the police continue to search for his brothers.
