Tension flares in Huruma after police kill teenage boy.

Police in Kiamaiko, Huruma estate in Nairobi are accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old boy on the family’s balcony.

Starehe Sub-county police commander Julias Kiragu while confirming the Thursday night incident, said officers on a night patrol were trying to disperse the surging mob who demanded to know why police on patrol demanded to stop a suspicious vehicle, forcing Police to shoot in the air to disperse the crowd.

He said the boy who was a student at a nearby school in the area, was rushed to MSF hospital in Huruma but later succumbed to the injuries.

The shooting sparked tension in the area as angry mob tried to burn down Huruma police station.

Mr Kiragu called on witnesses at the scene including relevant government institution to record statement to speed up investigation into the matter.

The body of the decedent was removed to the Chiromo mortuary.
