Meru senator Mithika Linturi was on Tuesday charged with attempting to rape a 36-year- old woman.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nazushi at the Milimani law court in Nairobi, Linturi was charged that on January 30, 2021 he attempted to rape a 36-year-old woman at Maiyan Villas Hotel in Nyanyuki at around 3am.
He is further accused of committing an incident act by intentionally touching the Woman’s breast and private parts without her consent.
He pleaded not guilty to both accounts and was released on a cash bail of Ksh 20,000. Linturi defence team led by Muthoni Thiaonkolu had urged the court to release the senator on a reasonable bail terms.
State prosecutor Evelyene Onunga urged the court to grant him bail on condition that he should not interfere with witnesses either directly or indirectly.
