A robbery suspect died in Gatanga, Murang’a County, after falling into a pit latrine where upon an angry mob lit a fire and burnt him.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, the suspect identified as Joseph Karanja, 30, had committed the robbery on Tuesday night and went into hiding, leaving irate residents baying for his blood.
“At the crack of dawn today (Tuesday), the unforgiving residents dispatched a search party for the suspect, in the hope that they would get hold of him and bring to an end the persistent robberies that have bedeviled Kiganjo Sub-location, in the larger Gatanga constituency,” Said the DCI.
“And as the exhausted search party was about to give up at 10am, they unbelievably stumbled on the suspect at his hideout, close to his father’s compound,” added the DCI.
Detectives says in a bid to evade arrest, the suspect jumped into a 10-feet latrine to save his life only for the agitated mob to gather firewood and other flammable materials which they threw into the pit latrine and started a fire, killing the suspect on the suspect.
After the deadly incident, the DCI cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.
