Matiangi puts Chiefs on notice over rise in sale, consumption of illicit brews.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has issued a Stern warning to cheifs and Assistant chiefs who will be found guilty of abbeting illicit alcoholic drinks and substance within their areas of jurisdiction.

Matiangi who was speaking during the launch of Rapid Response Initiative on illicit alcoholic drinks and substances blamed the local adminstrators of impeding effort to eliminate the vice further directing the Regional Commissioners and County Commissioners to fire cheifs found colluding with the illegal Brewers.

He accused the County government over the increase of the vice by licensing sellers without following the laid down procedures, saying that reports indicated that the county government have been issuing license to single houses to operate the business of selling cheap liquor to youths.

His sentiments were echoed by his PS Karanja Kibicho who warned the County officers in different counties known for the illicit brewing would also loose their jobs if the failed to reduce the consumption of the illicit brewer.

Recently, the Rift Valley County Commissioner George Natembeya suspended eight officials from Matiangi’s Ministry after 10 people were found dead in Bahati Nakuru, after consuming alcohol illicit.
