Police in Trans Nzoia is holding a 28-year-old man for allegedly killing his mother for declining to give him money to buy alcohol.
Robin Oyori Osuma reportedly dragged his 56-year-old mother from her bedroom to the toilet before stabbing her severally in the chest using a kitchen knife.
Joseph Wekesa, a village elder in Siyoi village Sub-County where the fatal incident happened, claimed the suspect often demands money from I’m mother, Agnew Chepkorir Kosgei and beats her up whenever she declines his demands.
“The suspect also went ahead and sold two sheep on Saturday and Sunday. His mother reported the matter to the police on Monday morning,” said Wekesa.
On Monday night, the day of the incident at around 8 pm, the suspect demanded cash from his mother.
“When his mother refused, the suspect proceeded to the kitchen, returned with a knife, dragged her from the bedroom to the toilet, and stabbed her before telling one of their neighbours what he had done and warned him not to enter their house,” the village elder said as reported by The Standard.
Wekesa said that after hearing about the incident, he was accompanied by other neighbours to the suspect’s home where they apprehended him and took him to the nearby Maili Saba Police Station.
Police officers who visited the scene of the crime said that they found the body of the woman lying in a pool of blood with the knife used to stab her lying next to her.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is now waiting to be arraigned in court.
