Government Spokesperson Rtd. Col Cyrus Oguna has told off Senator Murkomen and affirmed that President Uhuru Kenyatta himself ordered for the Mau evictions. Senator Murkomen on Wednesday sensationally claimed that President Uhuru did not give any directives to have people evicted from the Mau and told residents to stay put. Spokesman Oguna says apart from Mau , squatters in Mt Kenya and Abadare forests are also going to be pushed out by government as it reclaims all of country’s water towers.
“The truth is that the government of Kenya led by President Uhuru Kenyatta has not tabled in its own Cabinet, a decision on how to resettle the people of Mau. The truth is also that the Cabinet has not decided on eviction of anybody and neither does the Jubilee government believe in eviction of its citizens. This is a decision made by a single Cabinet Secretary and a Regional Commissioner who are determined to act on an illegality,” Murkomen said on Wednesday at Parliament Buildings.
This new statement from the official government spokesperson continues the push and pull over the Mau evictions, which has not only snowballed into a political headache for DP William Ruto, but also is putting to test his following in the Rift Valley, where residents begin to see him as toothless and cannot defend their interests.
