On February 7th, 2023, a tense situation unfolded in Kenya as former Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i was grilled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over alleged misconduct.
During the questioning, Azimio leader Raila Odinga attempted to enter the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road, where Matiang’i was being questioned, but was denied entry. Matiang’i’s legal team had given the detectives an ultimatum to either charge him or they would walk out, leading to a standoff.
It was later revealed that Matiang’i would be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and publication of false information according to his lawyers.
The incident sparked a crowd outside the DCI headquarters, with individuals chanting “No Matiang’i, no peace!” as the situation unfolded.
