A video that is doing rounds on social media showing masses walking away as DP William Ruto was giving his address has caused a huge debate on social media.
Apparently, the clip shared by ODM blogger Robert Alai was taken when Ruto was addressing a crowd in Tala town, Machakos county.
The second in command and his Kenya Kwanza brigade including Machakos governor Alfred Mutua who joined the team recently took their campaigns to the county on Tuesday.
According to the clip, people started walking away as DP Ruto was making his remarks on the issue of Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka being interviewed for the Azimio-OKA running mate position.
The photographer was even forced to zoom in so that he would not capture the crowd ‘walking away’.
“We have agreed that these people(their competitors) should stop being rude, have you heard that they went to interview Kalonzo Musyoka? That the Kitendawili person has gone to interview Kalonzo asking him what his name is. I want to ask you Ukambani people, Mr. Kitendawili did not know Kalonzo’s name all this time?” Ruto said, adding that Raila had gone too far with his contempt.
Ruto went on to say that if Kalonzo was being asked his name, then the Tala locals will be asked if they are Kenyans or refugees. He promised to deal with his competitors and send them packing.
At the same time, Ruto unveiled Mutua as a new member of Kenya Kwanza while asking the crowd if they had agreed to him joining Kenya Kwanza.
Some netizens however claim that people started walking away because the security was clearing the way for the vehicles since the address was coming to an end.
“It is very obvious that the security is creating space for vehicles.. but if it makes u sleep well ni sawa,” R Ngeno said on Twitter.
Others claimed that the video had been photoshopped while others claimed that Ruto had been rejected in Ukambani.
The truth of the matter however is that the video was not edited but shows the exact events that took place. Security guards could actually be seen clearing the path.
