The Nairobi police boss, Adamson Bungei, has made a declaration stating that the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance Monday protest is illegal.

During a press briefing on Sunday, Bungei stated that the protest does not meet the necessary threshold and will not be allowed to proceed. The police received two requests from different groups who intended to hold protests on the same day, but none were granted a permit to protest.

Both the Azimio la Umoja and Nairobi business community wrote to the police concerning their intentions to hold a protest on Monday. Bungei confirmed that neither group met the required criteria to be granted permission to carry out a protest and warned of severe consequences for those who break the law.

He stated that anyone who breaches the peace or breaks the law during the procession shall be dealt with according to the law.

The police boss urged Kenyans to avoid engaging in any illegal activities that might lead to the destruction of property or loss of lives. More updates will follow as the situation unfolds.
