Kisumu is the third most developed city in Kenya, following Nairobi and Mombasa, and it boasts a skyline dotted with skyscrapers and malls.
In this article, we will examine the tallest buildings in Kisumu and the companies behind them.

The tallest building in Kisumu is the Mega Plaza Tower 2, reaching a height of 62.64 meters above sea level, with a total of 17 floors, mainly used as commercial spaces for different companies’ offices. It is owned by the Mega Properties Group, which owns several other buildings in different cities.

The second-tallest building in Kisumu is the Mega Plaza 1, also owned by the Mega Properties Group, with a height of 62.00 meters above sea level and 17 floors, which are mainly used for commercial purposes.

The third-tallest building in Kisumu is the Prosperity House, also known as the Nyanza Provincial Headquarters Building, reaching a height of 51.58 meters above sea level, with 14 floors mainly used for commercial purposes. It is owned by the government of Kenya and houses the official offices of the county government of Kisumu, the county commissioner’s office, and the Huduma center. The Varsity Plaza, also known as the Kenya National Assurance House, is the fourth-tallest building in Kisumu, reaching a height of 51 meters above sea level, with 14 floors mainly used as university offices and classrooms. It is owned and regulated by the administration of Maseno University.

The Re-insurance Plaza, with a height of 29.48 meters above sea level and eight floors, is mainly used as commercial spaces for businesses and companies’ offices. It is located along New Station road and is owned by the Kenya Re Company Limited. The East Africa Society Building, with a height of 29.4 meters above sea level and eight floors, is mainly used as institutional offices, owned and managed by the East African Building Society. The Nairobi University Kisumu Campus New Building, with seven floors and primarily used as offices and classrooms of the university, has a height of up to 25.79 meters above sea level, and is owned and governed by the administration of the University of Nairobi.

Finally, the Imperial Hotel and the Central Bank of Kenya Building join the list of the tallest buildings in Kisumu, with heights of 25.7 meters and 24.4 meters above sea level, respectively. The Imperial Hotel has a total of seven floors occupied by the hotel and serves as restaurants, board rooms, lounges, and accommodation. It is owned and managed by the Gilani family. The Central Bank of Kenya Building is a low-rise building primarily used for financial purposes and is located along Jomo Kenyatta Highway.
