Joyce Naserian, a businesswoman based in Nairobi, recently made headlines after being jailed for three months for shouting in the Central Business District (CBD) of Nairobi. Naserian was arrested by county askaris after she shouted to call a customer to their shop. Despite being fined Ksh10,000, Naserian was unable to pay the fine and was sentenced to three months in jail.
However, comedian Eric Omondi secured her release from the Lang’ata Women’s Prison and also offered her a job to help kickstart her new journey in marketing.
“We have released Joyce Naserian from Langata Women’s Prison. She was to spend three months in prison for a petty offence with a fine of only Ksh10,000. She can now go back to her children.
“Believe it or not, this is Joyce Naserian. It is possible to lift one another only if we unite. Joyce will be offered a job and a new lifeline,” read the statement in part.
Following her release, various beauty companies also offered to give her a makeover to help her start afresh.
Naserian’s story gained a lot of attention from Kenyans after it was aired on Inooro TV. Many people sympathized with her and called for her release. She also pleaded with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to intervene in her case as she was unable to raise the fine.
