With unconfirmed reports indicating that the only reason behind Ruto’s cordial welcoming in Nyanza was due to Raila’s acquiescence, new allegations are now emerging about a seemingly hardline clique which appeared to hold to their guns and even boycotted the president’s meeting.

President William Ruto held two closed-door meetings with elected leaders from Kisumu and Migori counties at the Kisumu state lodge after his Homa Bay tour.
The agenda of the meeting was development plans for Nyanza region.

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and his Migori counterpart, Ochilo Ayako, were present.
According to a legislator who attended the meeting and sought anonymity, the President called for a cordial working relationship with his government for the benefit of citizens.

Kisumu leaders led by Nyong’o, Senator Tom Ojienda, MPs Jared Okello (Nyando), Shakeel Shabbir (Kisumu East), Joshua Oron (Kisumu Central), Onyango Koyoo (Muhoroni), Dr James Nyikal (Seme) presented to the President a list of development projects they want completed.

Only Kisumu West MP Roza Akinyi Buyu and Nyakach Mp Aduma Awuor were absent from the night meeting, while from Migori, only Suna East MP Junet Mohammed and Suna West MP Francis Masara were absent.

The leaders present listed the Kisumu-Kakamega-Mamboleo-Miwani road project which has stalled and called for Ruto’s intervention to have it completed to boost transport activities with neighbouring counties, including Nandi.
The leaders also mentioned the Ahero bypass, which is still under construction, rice farming projects, the revival of state-owned sugar mills to boost cane farming, the Koru Soin multipurpose dam and the issue of insecurity also arose in the meeting.

President Ruto is said to have acknowledged the area’s affinity towards ODM leader Raila Odinga, but called on the leaders to forge ahead devoid of politics and support the government in delivering promises made to Kenyans.
The meeting which was attended by the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagau, Interior PS Raymond Omollo and also Trade PS Alfed Kombudo agreed that there shall be constant meetings with the leaders on development plans and that PS Omollo will be the link between the leaders and various government departments.
