Kimanzi: Former Harambee Starts coach set to land a new job

Former Harambee Stars head coach Francis Kimanzi is closing on a return to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League with Mathare United.

The Slum Boys, still without a permanent coach, are yet to begin the season due to last week’s Sports Dispute Tribunal, SDT order temporarily putting a stop to relegation/promotion from last season’s FKFPL and National Super League, among others.

A source close to the club has confirmed to Kenyan Report that Kimanzi is being strongly considered to take over from the Nairobi-based club.

Kimanzi has been seen guiding the team of coaches conducting the team’s training sessions.

“Talks of having Kimanzi return to the club are ongoing,” the source confirmed. “His return is close, I am hopeful.

On why the Mathare United hierarchy approached Kimanzi for a potential return, the source pointed out the coach’s experience, especially on the local scene.

“If you want to know how Kimanzi is a good coach, look back at his playing days at Mathare United and when he was a coach here,” he added.

“He has coached our national team and had a rather good record, especially when he trusted players doing trade in our league.

“The understanding of the terrain of the league and the knowledge of the players is key, and for that reason, we saw in him a man who could come and offer the needed help urgently.”

Kimanzi remains without a club since he parted ways with Wazito FC

Meanwhile, Mathere witnessed mass exodus of players after they pulled out of the protested 2021-22 season, citing among others lack of finances. They are, however, on a rebuilding process.

The players are, Samson Otieno from Dandora Youth, Dennis Ochieng‘, a midfielder from Mwatate FC, who is making a return, Derrick Ambudo, a midfielder from Zetech Titans and Augustine Kuta from Nairobi City Stars.

Others are Mustapha Oduor, Joseph Levin Odhiambo Curtis Wekesa (Wazito FC, Brian Olang’o (K. Sharks) and Chris Owino (Talanta FC).
