Victor Wanyama linked to a move to Europe hours after watching from the stands as Liverpool punish his former club

Wanyama, who recently left CF Montreal in the Major Soccer League, MLS, posted on his socials that, “felt good to be back here. Thank you for having me at Tottenham Hotspur.”

Wanyama, who joined Spurs in 2016 from Southampton, left in March 2020 for a two-year stint in North America with Montreal. In his farewell tweet then, he said, “I want to thank @SpursOfficial fans for all the support over these past years. We have shared great times together from finishing 2nd in EPL to reaching the Champions League finals.

I will always be grateful for having been able to play for @SpursOfficial.”

The 31-year-old has been linked to a return to Europe with his former side Celtic FC among reported suitors.

At the start of October, the 31-year-old midfielder, who joined Montreal at the start of 2020 from English Premier League’s Tottenham Hotspur, confirmed that he won’t be back for the 2023 MLS season

“Honestly, I think that this question has been long asked and the truth is that at the end of the season, I will leave. I have had great years here and enjoyed being part of the team,” he said.

Following the news, Scottish publication Glasgow Times reported that Wanyama’s former club have been put on alert after the player’s declaration.

“Celtic have been put on alert after former midfielder Victor Wanyama revealed he is set to leave his club in Canada at the end of their season,” read the publication.

Before his move to the MLS, Celtic tried to re-sign the former Southampton and Tottenham star but the move failed to happen with the Kenyan international revealing Tottenham refused to let him go.
