The deputy president was in the western county on Friday, July 29, where he held a series of rallies before addressing a mammoth gathering at Posta grounds.

He proceeded a few moments later after the man disappeared in the vicinity.

An incident of a similar extent alsp happened in May this year as the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his allies traversed Machakos county, selling their agenda to the area electorate. Raila was accompanied by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Governor Charity Ngilu, and Machakos gubernatorial candidates Wavinya Ndeti and Nzioka Waita, among other Azimio leaders.

However, while addressing his supporters at the Makadara shopping centre in Athi River, Raila was forced to cut short his speech after chaos erupted at the dais.

The clash was between Wavinya’s supporters and those backing Waita’s candidature. It is alleged that the fight ensued after a sitting area MP physically attempted to block Waita from getting near Raila at the podium. The chaos culminated in a fist fight.

The Opposition leader’s security detail did not waste a moment after the fracas broke out at the podium. In a matter of seconds, the bodyguards emerged from the crowd and quickly surrounded the former prime minister with heightened vigilance. When the commotion first began, the first security detail was spotted quickly rushing to the podium to protect his boss. More aides joined him, and they formed a ring around him and Ngilu. As captured in a video, Ngilu is seen shielding behind Raila.
