Celebrations rocked AFC leopards camp after experienced trio of Eugene Mukangula, Tedian Esilaba and Kingsley Olaniyi have extended their stay at the den.
The decision by the management to tie the trio to new deals comes at a time when the club is grappling to clear its name off the FIFA’s red list that means that, the outfit is ineligible to sign new players.
The transfer ban has seen the club turn to the youth team and promoted a number of youngsters who have gone to prove themselves at the top league.
Meanwhile, the three senior players have penned season-long deals with the club that is understood to be loaded having penned a lucrative deal with a new shirt sponsor last week.
Mukangula who doubles up as the club skipper will consequently become the longest serving player in the unit having joined June 2018 from the defunct Thika United.
Esilaba, a central defender joined the club in February last year from Nairobi City Stars while Olaniyi was tapped from Kakamega Homeboyz after falling down in the pecking order.
“We are pleased to announce that Mukangula, Esilaba and Olaniyi have extended their stay with the club. They have signed one-year contracts each that will keep them at the den until August 2023,” read a post from the club.
Mukangula joined AFC Leopards in 2018 from former Premier League side Thika United. The player arrived at the den during Coach Rodolfo Zapata’s reign and signed three-year deal and was handed jersey 19.
Esilaba, on the other hand, switched teams to the Leopards in February 2021 after playing for the Nairobi City Stars and aiding their promotion to the Premier League. He had previously played for Administration Police FC and Bidco FC.
Olaniyi on his part joined AFC Leopards at the start of the season. The three join the long list of players who have agreed to stay at the den.
Other players are defenders Robert Mudenyu and Collins Shivachi who have also signed new one-year deals with the FKF Premier League side.
Goalkeeper Maxwell Muchesia Mulili has been handed a new three-year deal at the club while South Sudanese International Mousa Saad has penned a new one-year deal.
