The visit of Baringo Central MP Joshua Kandie Chepyegon to Deputy President William Ruto on Friday sparked political tensions in the Rift Valley as the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) politics continued to rule the country. Mr. Kandie was a member of the Baringo regional delegation that arrived at DP Ruto’s house on Friday morning for a secret meeting. Mr. Kandie was picked by Alfred Mutua’s Mauthuko Chapchap party to represent it in Parliament.

A stronghold of the KANU party and of Senator Gideon Moi, who has fought William Ruto for control of the electorally important Rift Valley region in the run-up to the 2022 elections, is Baringo. Joshua Kandie has been helping Daniel Moi, the young son of the former president, and his Friday visit to Karen was well-received.

Last week, Kandie was part of a team that accompanied Gideon Moi to promote the full political report and promised full support for the document and the local Senate.

However, a credible report from a group of other politicians in Karen states that Mr Kandie has changed the U-turn in the BBI report and has joined William Ruto’s party in full and will stand behind the so-called Rift Valley. kingpin in his BBI position.

Joshua Kandie has reportedly severed his links with Gideon Moi and joined the well-known Hustler Nation, pledging his whole allegiance to the man from Sugoi, according to Tenges ward Member of County Assembly who was also a member of the delegation. Silas Tochim posted on his Facebook page that Hon. Joshua Kandie Chepyegon had “officially declared his support and allegiance to H. E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto aka the Hustler.”

Although Ruto has not fully expressed his position on the report, he has called for dialogue and consensus to produce a final inclusive report. However, the national steering committee and the influential political figures who support the report have ignored his calls.

Meanwhile,  Prior to the general elections in August, the Kenya Kwanza Alliance team, led by presidential candidate Hon. William Samoei Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance party, attended a health conference.

Officials from the health sector persuaded William Samoei Ruto, the deputy president, that they would consider his candidacy provided he agreed to establish a Health Service Commission to help them modernize the industry.
