There have been whispered rumours going around that a silent rebellion is silently fomenting in Siaya County against the team that has allegedly been imposed on the people by ODM, and that a rude shock awaits Raila Odinga at the polls.
Celebrated news anchor Linda Oguttu has made no secret of her political preferences in the forthcoming polls as far as the presidency is involved. However, the KTN journalist’s latest move has shocked those who thought that she is the six-piece type, or is in a way, beholden to the Odinga family.
As has become her modus operandi, Lindah played safe by not bluntly announcing her political stand and compromising her expected media neutrality. Instead, she wholly approved a tweet that spoke for itself.
This tweet by Brendan Awino pledged to vote for Raila Odinga as president. However, under Raila the tweet vowed to vote for Engineer Nicholas Gumbo and not Raila’s ally James Orengo. In the senatorial race, the decision was even more radical. It wasn’t specified who should be voted for but rather, who shouldn’t. It was agreed upon to vote for anyone else but not Dr. Oburu Odinga. Same was the case in the Women Representative position where anyone was to be voted but not Ombaka. The member of parliament position was to go to Rarieda legislator Otiende Amollo and Member of County Assembly to a certain Agody. Interestingly, this was a tweet showing Linda Oguttu’s approval of it.
Back in April, Oburu Odinga was given a direct Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket to vie for the Siaya Senator seat in the August 9 polls.
Oburu joined the current county Senator James Orengo who was also given a direct party ticket to vie for the governor seat.
Others who did not go for nominations were Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and Ugunja’s Opiyo Wandayi.
Worth noting is that just days before this, Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku got a direct ticket to defend his seat in the August 9, poll as well.
Oburu Odinga who is Raila Odinga’s elder brother had unsuccessfully vied for the Bondo parliamentary seat during the last election. He lost to Gideon Ochanda in the ODM nominations. Upon failure to capture the seat, he was nominated by his Orange Democratic Movement party as a member of the East Africa Legislative Assembly, EALA.
He has previously served as the Bondo member of parliament upon the death of his father Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga back in 1994.
