As a son to Alice Taabu, the legendary Mke Nyumbani host who many 90s kids have fond memories of, one would expect that Nimrod Taabu would extend the same reverence and respect to the parents of his peers. However, the mischievous Manchester United fan clearly holds a different opinion.
During yesterday’s news, Nimrod presented a news item about IEBC’s announcement concerning the number of presidential candidates that have registered to vie for the country’s top seat in the upcoming August poll. Among them Nimrod made sure to mention was David Mwaure Waihiga. Mwaure happens to be the father of his fellow Citizen TV news anchor, Waihiga Mwaura.
Interestingly, after the news item, Nimrod Taabu wondered aloud why and how some people were wasting time vying for the presidency when even just their faces can’t be recognised from the street. With a wry wicked smile, he grinned dismissively before proceeding.
The senior Waihiga who is also a Senior Counsel is the party leader of the Agano party. He was unveiled as Agano Party presidential candidate in March after the political outfit held its National Delegates Conference.
Speaking during the NDC, David Mwaure cautioned Kenyans against electing politicians with integrity issues in the forthcoming polls.
“We in Agano are saying it is time for a change, it is time for Kenya to have new leadership. We are saying that Kenya will not go anywhere if we let the same leaders who have been there for years. It is time to bring to an end the curse and practice of corruption and scandals,” he said.
The politician-cum preacher contested for the Kamukunji Parliamentary seat in 2011 after the high court nullified Simon Mbugua’s election. He lost.
He joined the race for the presidency at a time when the contest is being billed as a two-horse race between ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.
Opinion polls have ranked the two as the top contenders for the presidency.
Others who have expressed interest in the seat include Constitutional Lawyer Ekuru Aukot with his Thirdway Alliance Party and professor George Wajakoya who will be using his Roots Party.
