Renowned Kenyan artist Millicent Jepkorir, popularly known as Marakwet Daughter, has recently found herself at the center of controversy as she faces a decline in YouTube subscribers.
The artist, celebrated for her hit song ‘Mali Safi Chito,’ took to TikTok to address alleged trolls among her followers in a now-viral video that has ignited a social media storm.
In the video, Marakwet Daughter warned those spreading negativity and threatened to block anyone engaging in what she perceived as harmful behavior.
The singer, once considered humble, boldly declared her peace of mind after blocking several individuals and advised them to express their opinions elsewhere. She specifically called out those accustomed to using bad language on her comment section and accused them of spewing hate in her TikTok inbox.
“You are used to using bad language on my comment section. Mumezoea sana kupupuu inbox yangu pale TikTok, pupuu sasa hapa. Nkt!” she lashed out at her followers. The performer went on to emphasize her readiness to stop anyone acting in a way that she deemed damaging to her online presence.
This shift in Marakwet Daughter’s tone and approach has not gone unnoticed by her fanbase. Netizens took to social media to express their opinions on her remarks.
Some expressed disappointment, stating that she had become less humble since gaining fame. Others suggested that pride comes before a fall and reminded her that the same fans she was blocking were the ones who contributed to her celebrity status.
One user commented, “Ulikua very humble umeguza million 3 umekaa na kiburi hii industry Iko na wenyewe nakupea 8 months urudi kubeg.” Another user noted, “Pride comes before a fall.. hao watu ndio walifanya akuwe celeb.. she needs them as her fans.”
