Yvonne Okwara’s path from humble beginnings to resounding success is a narrative that lingers in the memory when reflecting on the journey from rags to riches.

Born on March 16, 1983, Yvonne is the youngest of three siblings, growing up in a household that shaped her character and resilience.

Her educational journey commenced at All Saints Cathedral Primary School in Nairobi before she moved on to Kianda High School.

Through sheer hard work, unwavering persistence, and an indomitable zeal, Yvonne secured a place at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, where she pursued her studies.

However, what many may not be aware of is Yvonne’s stint as a server at Walker’s Restaurant during a phase in her life. Despite the long and demanding hours, she earned a meager Sh 150 each day in that role.

Fortune smiled upon her when she was hired by Kenya’s Broadcasting Company to host children’s variety shows, earning Ksh 500 for every episode. This marked a significant turning point in her career trajectory.

Moving on from KBC, Yvonne embarked on a diverse journey, contributing her talents to various radio and television stations, including Hot 96, Q FM, and KTN News.

Presently, she holds a pivotal role at Royal Media Services (Citizen TV) as a senior news anchor and the editor in charge of research and planning.

It is estimated that Yvonne now commands a monthly income of at least Sh 500,000, inclusive of allowances, showcasing the remarkable distance she has covered from her early days as a waitress earning a humble Sh 150 per day.
