A middle-aged man has been arrested by police from the Industrial Area Police Station in connection with the brutal murder of a 24-year-old woman in an Airbnb apartment located in South B, Nairobi.

The suspect was captured on CCTV footage in the company of the victim, identified as social media influencer Starlet Wahu, on the night of the tragic event.

The chilling footage reveals Wahu, elegantly dressed in a short red dress, walking alongside the man from the apartment’s lift, both seemingly entering the premises willingly.

However, what transpired in the subsequent hours would turn this ordinary night into a scene of horror.

The following day, a distress call reached police officers, alerting them to a potential murder at the apartment.

Upon arrival, they encountered a grim sight – the apartment had been locked from the outside, forcing them to break in. Inside, they discovered the lifeless body of the young woman, lying in a pool of blood in the sitting room area.

As investigators delved into the details, Florence Ngina, the Airbnb owner, shared with detectives that the alleged killer, Matara, had booked the house for one night and had checked in on Wednesday.

Early on Thursday morning, Ngina received word that Matara had hastily left the premises with blood-stained clothes.

Accompanied by colleagues, Ngina promptly reported the matter at South B police station. Senior officers in Makadara sub-county were alerted, and a team, including crime scene personnel, DCI officers, and regular police, swiftly rushed to the scene.

Among the items discovered in the room were a Samsung phone, condoms, drugs (referred to as ‘bang’), a bottle of alcohol, and a bloodied kitchen knife.

Notably, a HIV testing kit was also found, with detectives claiming negative results, refuting speculations that Matara may have committed the crime due to HIV-positive results.

While detectives meticulously reconstructed the crime scene, Matara, the primary suspect, sought the assistance of a friend who took him to Mbagathi Hospital for medical attention. Armed with Matara’s personal details and mobile number, detectives swiftly located him.

Although arrested at the hospital, Matara was allowed to receive treatment. Upon confirmation from doctors that he was in stable condition, he was escorted to the Industrial Area Police Station for interrogation.

During questioning, Matara claimed that Wahu was his girlfriend.
