Former AFC Leopard lethal striker Ezekiel Otuoma’s wife, Racheal Otuoma, has vowed never to leave him but to continue supporting him through the challenging period of his illness.

Mrs. Otuoma, a renowned beautician, stated that her husband had shown her true love, and she couldn’t abandon him during this difficult time, despite friends advising her to leave the marriage.

Player Otuoma played for the Stima team and was overtaken by the neurodegenerative disease known scientifically as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The disease has caused him suffering, robbing him of the ability to walk, speak, and even feed himself.

The player began his career with the Muhoroni team, later moving to Ulinzi, Western Coaches, AFC Leopards, SoNy Sugar, Ushuru, and finally Talanta, where he started experiencing health issues in 2019.

According to Mrs. Otuoma, her husband initially lost his voice, and they thought it was just a common illness. After several tests at Kenyatta Hospital, they were informed that the disease had affected him both mentally and physically.

“I went to India, and that’s when I began to accept the truth,” said Mrs. Otuoma, adding that the experts told her the condition was manageable.

Mrs. Otuoma pledged never to leave her husband because of the life he provided during his football days when he was in good health.

“We used to live in poverty, but we found ourselves in a good situation, and I can’t leave,” said Mrs. Otuoma.

“Otuoma gave me a life; I knew him when he had nothing. They were living with his mother, and I accepted him and took him to a house made of iron sheets, and I accepted him. When he had money, he didn’t change,” Mrs. Otuoma emphasized.

She revealed there was a time they lacked money and feared going back to people, dreading their judgments.

Mrs. Otuoma mentioned that many friends advised her to leave her marriage, something she insisted she could never do.

As time passes, she said that her husband’s fellow players and other friends have started avoiding them.
