Nelly Chepkoech, a young woman from Bomet County, who was reportedly said to have called off her wedding just a day before the scheduled date, has now emerged to dismiss those claims.
Nelly and her fiancé Amos were supposed to officially tie the knot on Saturday, December 11, at the AGC Kapsoyo Church. However, wedding plans were halted just a day before the ceremony, causing speculation and confusion among those involved.
WhatsApp conversations among the wedding planning committee members leaked on social media, fueling rumors and accusations, with many pointing fingers at Nelly.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, the 23-year-old denied canceling her wedding, asserting that it was the church’s decision to postpone the ceremony due to the delay in some documents.
“Today (Saturday) would have been my wedding day, but we were told yesterday that the wedding couldn’t happen due to the delay of some letters. But we were eagerly waiting for the day,” Nelly said.
The young woman also refuted claims of eloping to avoid her wedding, stating that she is still at her parent’s home.
She revealed that there was confusion and heightened emotions when they were informed that their significant event would not proceed as planned. However, she made it clear that she is ready to marry Amos since they were assured of another wedding date.
“Everyone was in tears; everyone was crying. I am at home; I haven’t disappeared. I am still waiting for the day we were told we would be called. I am ready for that day,” she said.
She added, “We are waiting for the reverend to tell us the day to proceed with the wedding. I haven’t said he canceled it. It was postponed.”
Kenyans on social media have been engaged in intense debates since the leaked WhatsApp conversation about the postponement of Nelly and Amos’ wedding. There have been various rumors and accusations, with many seemingly against the 23-year-old woman.
The postponed wedding was supposed to formalize the relationship of the couple of about nine months.
