A man in Mombasa has asked the court to forgive him after he chopped off his wife three fingers over allegations of secret love affairs.
Boniface Nawate was arrested in the Mzungu Mchafu area in the Likoni sub-county following the incident.
According to a police report, it all started when the wife named Hellen believed that her husband Boniface Nawate had secretive affair with another woman.
As tensions escalated during their argument, Nawate grabbed a kitchen knife and used it to inflict severe harm upon his wife.
After the assault, he dragged her into their bedroom and locked her up.
Boniface Nawate was arrested by the police and subsequently appeared before Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Gladys Ollimo, where he pleaded guilty to charges of willfully and unlawfully assaulting his wife by stabbing and cutting off her three fingers using a kitchen knife.
The charges stated that on November 8 this year, he assaulted Hellen Kangecha by stabbing her and cutting her fingers using a kitchen knife, resulting in actual bodily harm.
During his mitigation, the suspect expressed remorse and pleaded for forgiveness.
He stated that he was the family’s breadwinner and requested leniency from the court, emphasizing that his family would suffer if he were sent to jail.
The court has scheduled the matter to be mentioned on November 21, 2023, for sentencing.
