The South African football club, AmaZulu FC, has confirmed the death of their captain, Bonginkosi Ntuli.
In a statement on Sunday evening, the club, which competes in the South African Premier Soccer League, announced that the striker passed away at Midlands Medical Center Private Hospital, where he was receiving treatment after being diagnosed with a severe form of cancer recently.
“It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of our beloved striker and loyal servant, Bonginkosi Ntuli,” AmaZulu FC announced on Sunday evening.
They added, “Ntuli was recently diagnosed with a severe form of cancer, which progressed rapidly and ultimately led to his demise at Midlands Medical Center Private Hospital in Pietermaritzburg this afternoon (Sunday).”
The club wished Ntuli’s soul a peaceful rest and urged people to respect the privacy of the family, friends, and close associates.
“Further announcements will be made in due course,” the statement said.
Thousands of fans and football clubs from around the world have joined AmaZulu FC and Ntuli’s family in mourning the loss of the 32-year-old striker.
Just before the start of the new season, about two months ago, Bongi Ntuli tied the knot with AmaZulu FC’s Chief Executive Officer, Sinenjabulo Zungu, in a lavish wedding ceremony held in KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The couple had previously gone through traditional marriage rituals in May 2023 before officially getting married on September 12, 2023.
Ntuli’s father-in-law, Zungu’s father, is the owner of AmaZulu Football Club where the talented striker had spent the past five years before his passing. May his soul rest in peace.
