Police in Kitui are currently investigating the death of an Administration Police (AP) officer who was assigned to guard the rural home of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in Tseikuru.
The officer was discovered unconscious in his residence on Sunday morning and was subsequently rushed to Mumoni Nursing Hospital, where he later succumbed to the unknown cause.
Kitui county police commander Leah Kithei provided details about the incident, stating that the deceased officer was found groaning in pain by colleagues around 8:30 am on Sunday.
They quickly responded and transported him to Mumoni Nursing Hospital in Tseikuru, where he succumbed to the poisoning while receiving medical attention.
The officer’s identity has not been disclosed as authorities are yet to inform his next of kin. Commander Kithei confirmed the commencement of investigations into the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death, emphasizing the need to await the conclusion of the probe and autopsy for a comprehensive understanding of the events.
“We have commenced investigation into the death,” Kithei stated. “Let’s wait until the conclusion of the probe, including the autopsy, for the truth to come out. Sooner than later, we will know what happened.”
Sources in Tseikuru indicated that the deceased officer had reportedly contemplated suicide previously. In an earlier incident, a colleague reportedly thwarted his attempt to ingest poison by intervening and taking the container away from him.
