Catholic Priest Abducts 18-Year-Old Girl, Takes Her Abroad, and Marries Her
A Catholic priest in the state of Alabama in the United States has reportedly married an 18-year-old girl who fled with him to Italy.
Alex Crow, a 30-year-old Catholic priest, married the girl, who graduated from high school in 2023, according to a marriage certificate filed in Mobile County on Monday, as reported by the New York Post.
She turned 18 just in June, the document states.
The young woman attended McGill-Toolen Catholic High, where Crow regularly visited theology classes, according to the report.
The relationship between the two became apparent when authorities discovered a love letter she received from the priest on Valentine’s Day while she was still a student.
Crow and the woman traveled to Europe during the summer before returning to the United States earlier this month, AL.com reported.
Crow, who has already been suspended from his duties, likely delivered his final sermon, Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi was quoted as saying this week according to the report.
“The recent news of Crow’s civil marriage only confirms the Archbishop’s judgment. Archbishop Rodi expects that the Vatican will ultimately strip Alex Crow of his authority,” a statement from the Archdiocese of Mobile read.
Rodi, in his preceding statement, condemned the spiritual leader and said his actions are “wholly inappropriate for a priest.”
“He has been informed by the archbishop that he can no longer function as a priest, nor tell people he is a priest, nor dress as a priest,” it said.
