A law enforcement official is currently in custody following an incident in Ruiru town, Kiambu County, where members of the public intervened to prevent his robbery attempt.
The inspector, armed with a pistol, targeted a customer at an M-Pesa shop, robbing them of Ksh.54,000. The alarm raised by the M-Pesa operator prompted members of the public to pursue the suspect.
Fleeing from the mob, the officer sought refuge in Equity Bank Ruiru branch, where he was subsequently apprehended by other police officers.
Ruiru Police Boss Alex Shikondi reported that the suspect had fired his weapon in the air as a diversion during the pursuit.
The officer’s identity has not been disclosed by the authorities at this time.
