In a poignant TikTok video that has since gone viral, a distressed Kenyan man implored political leaders to address the soaring fuel costs that have burdened ordinary citizens.

In the short clip, widely shared on social media, the unidentified man passionately appealed to Raila Odinga, urging him to raise his voice on behalf of the suffering Kenyan populace.

“Raila, please speak up for us. Stop keeping quiet. You have been too silent, Raila. Speak up,” he pleaded, expressing the collective frustration over the escalating fuel prices that have adversely affected daily life for many Kenyans.

The man’s heartfelt plea was not limited to Raila Odinga alone; he extended his call for action to President William Ruto and Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, imploring them to intervene and find solutions to mitigate the financial strain caused by exorbitant fuel prices.

“Fuel prices are too high. Where will we get the money? Ghai! Gachagua, our President William Ruto, please solve this issue. You are squeezing us. We didn’t know you would take us to this place,” his distress palpable in his words.

His sentiment comes days after Super Petrol was increased by Sh5.72 litre, Diesel by Sh4.48 litre and Kerosene by Sh2.45 litre in this month’s review by energy regulator Epra.

This means a liter of super petrol will retail at Sh217.36 in Nairobi, diesel at Sh205.47 while kerosene will retail at Sh205.06.

The prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.
