In Emakwale area within Lusheya location, a 29-year-old man, Salim Opupa Opondo, lost his life in a heart-wrenching attempt to retrieve a mobile phone from a pit latrine.
Ironically, the phone was not his.
The phone, belonging to Semion Busaka, accidentally fell into the latrine while he was relieving himself. Opondo, in an act of kindness, attempted to help by retrieving the gadget.
Tragically, he slipped and fell into the pit, succumbing to drowning amidst the human waste.

According to police, the incident happened in Emakwale area within Lusheya location where one
Officials from Kakamega County Fire Brigade were called and managed to retrieve the body.
The body was washed and taken to a local mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.
In a separate incident in Mugutha, Juja, Kiambu County, the body of 24-year-old Moses Ndirangu Kirogo was discovered floating in Titanic Dam.
Police suspect foul play, suggesting he might have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped in the dam.
Kirogo had been missing since October 15, leaving the community puzzled until the grim discovery five days later. Investigations are underway to unravel the circumstances behind his tragic demise.
Additionally, in Muyavwa sub-location, Busia County, a horrifying accident claimed the life of Vincent Omondi.
Omondi was electrocuted while he was on duty, fixing power on a pole. Tragically, he was struck by a live wire, resulting in severe burns and immediate fatality.
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon.
Police said he died on the spot after being burnt severely.
The body was moved to a local mortuary.
