In a viral social media video, a man who identified himself as a teacher at the nearby Sankofa International School is depicted wearing a tattered shirt and with blood seeping from the back of his ear due to the physical assault he endured.
A voice in the background of the video narrates the unfolding of the incident, explaining that the victim had assumed a female identity and engaged in a sexual encounter with another man.
The narrator, speaking in the local dialect, Twi, states, “This is Odeefour TV, where we encounter unique stories every day. This incident occurred in the blue town of Pretea. The individual you see here has adopted a feminine persona and engaged in a sexual relationship with another man.”
What remains unclear is how the group of people knew about the alleged sexual encounter and the whereabouts of the other individual involved during the assault and filming.
It is essential to note that LGBTQI+ matters remain a contentious and sensitive topic in Ghana. Currently, there is a private bill pending approval in parliament, known as the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, which seeks to criminalize LGBTQ+ activities in the country.
If this bill becomes law, severe penalties will be imposed on anyone found engaging in or advocating LGBTQ+ activities.
